“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” – Rumi

Emotional pain can feel like it has stolen your light, leaving you anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted from trying to hold everything together. But what if that pain was also the entry point for healing, insight, and transformation?

Welcome! My name is Karen Culp, and I’m honored to be an intern therapist at Best Damn You in Arizona, a space devoted to authenticity, empowerment, and deep personal growth.

I completed my master’s coursework in counseling at the University of Phoenix. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to support couples and individuals seeking deeper emotional connection and healing.
Me, as a Psychotherapist:

I specialize in working with individuals who are ready to explore healing through evidence-based, cognitive, attachment, and trauma-informed modalities. I utilize EMDR for those carrying the weight of trauma that have left painful memories, disrupted relationships, poor boundaries, people pleasing behaviors, grief, depression, or anxiety that won’t seem to let go. I am also certified to provide DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) for clients navigating intense emotions, struggling to manage distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, having unhealthy relational patterns/conflict, or feeling like they’re on an emotional rollercoaster.
I also love working with couples! We often unknowingly bring our family of origin issues into our romantic relationships, placing us on a collision course when our unhealed parts emerge in each other. I offer Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to address these attachment wounds and create secure bonds. This helps couples reduce their dysfunctional communication patterns and perpetual conflicts, allowing them to navigate their way back to a deeper sexual and emotional connection, trust, and emotional safety.
“Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes.” – Carl Jung

I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey to help you reconnect with your true Self and live a life that feels fulfilling, meaningful, and whole.

Me, as a Person:

I’ve proudly called Arizona my home since 1996, residing in the Ahwatukee Foothills. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of raising my three sons here, teaching at the local YMCA, supporting my husband’s business, and building deep roots through friendship and service.

Outside of counseling, I nurture my well-being through quality time with my family, cooking, reading, and traveling. I especially love sailing with my husband and spending time at the beach. I promote self-care through teaching spin classes, working out, hiking with friends, and playing with our dog, Liberty.
My friendships, especially the time I spend with my girlfriends, are sacred to me, and I consider myself a lifelong learner, always seeking growth both personally and professionally.
